Child abuse is not just physical violence directed at a child. It is any form of maltreatment by an adult which is violent or threatening for the child. When child abuse occurs in the home and the abuser is, for example, the child's parent or care-giver, this is a form of domestic violence

Warning Signs of Abuse

Recognize the signs if possessive and controlling behaviors.

1) Telling you that you never do anything right.

2) Showing extreme jealousy of your friends or time spent away from them.

3) Preventing or discouraging you from spending time with friends, family members, or peers.

4) Insulting, demeaning, or shaming you, especially in front of other people.

5) Preventing you from making your own decisions.
